The Joys of Spring Break

Is there anything better than sleeping in and lazily drinking coffee for several hours?  I love Spring Break about as much as my students do. Getting off the race track of life, even if only for a week, helps you appreciate the simple things.  I love snuggling with my seven year old, choosing new paint colors for the house and hanging out with friends.

Looks like the coffee pot is done so I'm off to get another cup!

I love my Nook!

I am a die hard fan of the good old fashioned newspaper. Not the up to date news you find on the internet but the ink and paper version that you get on Sunday morning.  I love nothing more than peeling back the pages and reading every story on the page.

Knowing that reading, for me, is a very tactile experience I all but ignored the Kindle and other e-readers when they first came out.  Lately though I was hating the stack of books piling up next to my bed.  What a mess! Not to mention, I read them so quickly it barely seemed economical to pay the price I do for new books.  I am an avid fan of the library, but those pesky fines haunt me every time I return books.  I finally decided to research some of the e-readers to see if I could make the leap from paper to electronic.  My choices were quickly narrowed due to Kindle not being compatible with the public library.  The Kobo was clunky at best with it's navigation buttons and no search function.  I landed on the Nook and haven't looked back.

I got my Nook for Christmas and couldn't wait to download my first book.  I love that it's about the same size as a book I'd read and the ink looks very realistic.  I'm not so concerned about the web access because I have a smart phone, but the touch screen makes for very quick navigation.  I opted for the black and white version because I couldn't fathom the extra money not knowing if I would love it or hate it.

I definitely love it! I have trouble finding any books available through the library, but I'm learning patience by putting them on hold.  I have downloaded a couple of reduced price books from Barnes and Noble  that were very fun so well worth the $3 price tag.  I wish there were a pay for lending/ rental service since it's not like I need to keep a copy of the book.  My friend has a Nook as well so we can lend each other books.  Barnes and Noble only lets you lend it once though so you might have to be choosy as to who gets it.

I never thought I'd say it, but I love cuddling up with a blanket and my Nook.

Ice Day- Snow Day = relax day

This is really my first post since I created the blog and promptly ignored it.  What can I say, being a full time wife, mom, teacher and part time grad student doesn't leave a lot of hours in the day.  Which is why snow days are such a blessing.  One unexpected, non-scheduled day for me to sit and enjoy.  I know I should be an adult and catch up on something important like house work or grading, but honestly, I need a mental health day more than anything.

I have the ice to thank for that.  We have a quarter inch slick across our back deck that even causes the dog to slip and slide.  Thankful that I was not out on the roads this morning as the sleet was finishing.  Instead, I was snuggled warm in my bed enjoying the extra hours of sleep.

Now I'm getting ready to spend some time knitting and a nap may also be in my future. I had a ton of yarn left over so I decided to make a stash busting blanket.  I found a pattern on my favorite site, www.ravelry.com and began working on it a week ago.  It's a great pattern for picking up whenever you have time or even taking it with you if you're lucky enough to commute via public transportation.  Frankie Brown is the designer,so log on to ravelry to check out the pattern and many other cute things that she has designed.

We're off and running!

I am new to blogging, so I'm not sure if it will be life changing or just cathartic.  Come along for the ride!
